Day 4 of November's 30-Day Writing Challenge
Day 4: Ten interesting facts about yourself
It is prompts like these where I am forced to see the true power of words. Many times, it is easy to conflate interesting and good, but they are separate words and have separate meanings. I feel like a lot of people will respond to this prompt with facts that are all positively lit, instead of just interesting.
Interesting (adjective): arousing curiosity or interest; holding or catching the attention.
So here we go!

This girl right here is super interesting! |
So here we go!
- I am an extroverted-introvert. I love people, and I'm one of the most socially involved people I know. But I think that I have a meter inside of me, and when I've gotten to my pressure point of human-to-human interaction, I'm definitely apt to holing up in my room and not talking to anyone. Personally, being in spaces with others often shows me how much we as people perform for each other. Sometimes it's cool to be a part of this theatrical show, but every once in a while I have to escape.
- I have been diagnosed with anxiety, yet I don't ever tell anyone because I don't want to be a burden. I was pretty hesitant on putting this one, but hey yesterday I was talking about my first love so why not! I've always thought myself to be an anxious person, but recently being diagnosed with having the mental illness didn't really affect me in terms of things getting better. To keep from being a hassle on my friends and family, I barely bring it up.
- My hair has a name. Her name is Solace! The whole process of naming my hair was very symbolic of me accepting all of my kinks and loving them. I am definitely not my hair, but my hair is very much a big part of me. I chose the name Solace because of the sense of comfort my hair gives me.
- I am completely fine with being the single friend. I don't know why, but I came into college thinking that this was no doubt the space that I would find "my person." I couldn't have been more wrong, but I couldn't be more fine with that! Living my life as I please (single) is nothing to be ashamed of.
- Cooking big meals is my method of stress release and self-care. I loooooove to cook. The funny thing is, it took moving off campus into an apartment for me to notice that (which is probably because my parents also always cook so I never got the chance). The interest was sparked when I took a Chemistry of Cooking class last school year, and cooking really is a beautiful chemistry experiment. The different food aroma, the tastes, everything easily sends me into happy-town.
- I am a pro-Black womanist. To many people, this is obvious. But you never know who could stumble their way to this blog post, and this fact is very integral to my identity. My Blackness and my femininity have very beautifully and terrifyingly constructed my experiences as a human being.
- I LOVE lipstick! This is a quirky fact, but a fact nonetheless! Back in the day, I hated my full big lips. But now, I am so in love with them and I'm glad the "squeezing your lips makes them thinner" thing was/is a myth. It doesn't matter the brand, lipstick is one of my favorite pastimes. MAC? Duh. ColouredRaine? Oh yes. ABH? Bay-bee! So just in case you were thinking of getting me a gift anytime soon.....
- I am always cold. Always. It's always been this way. I could say that I don't know why, but that would be a lie. I'm anemic, which means I have starkly low iron levels. A consequence of having low iron is (you guessed it) being very cold very frequently. It's pretty bad, I have to blow dry my sheets before I go to bed (anyone want to gift me an electric blanket?) and I hate rolling the windows down in my car in any season other than summer. Life.
- It took leaving my hometown for me to rep it with absolute pride. I'm from Detroit. Now, don't get me wrong, I've never been all "I HATE DETROIT!" But I was never big on my city until I left for college in Illinois. It took me being surrounded by people from other states/areas who a- Have never been to and know nothing about Detroit and b- Feel as if it's okay to badmouth my city! It really is Detroit vs. Everybody! #DetroitHustlesHarder
- I absolutely love writing! I figured that I would end with this fact, to wrap up in the theme of a writing for a writing challenge on a blog where I write. But yeah, I truly do love writing. I can just put sentences and phrases together so much more beautifully than I could say anything. The pen is definitely mightier than the sword.
